From Auschwitz to Trident
Provocative lecture by noted international law expert
Dr. John Burroughs, Ph.D.
Seattle's Town Hall, Saturday Jan. 20, 7-8:30 pm.

Last year, on August 6th—the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima—three anti-nuclear protesters, were arrested for blocking the entrance to the Trident Nuclear Submarine Base at Bangor. On January 20, two days before the protesters—"The GZ3"—go to trial, their expert witness, international law expert Dr. John Burroughs, J.D., Ph.D. will deliver a provocative lecture entitled "From Auschwitz to Trident: The Nuclear Weapons of Puget Sound, The Power of International Law and Citizen Responsibility to Abolish Nuclear Weapons." As the Executive Director of the Lawyers Committee on Nuclear Policy and Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University, Dr. Burroughs has received international acclaim for his outspoken stance on the dangers of nuclear proliferation and its threat to world peace. There is more information about Dr. John Burroughs here. Political Commentator Geov Parrish will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event.

Dr. John Burroughs will also be participating in the Citizens' Hearing on the Legality of U.S. Actions in Iraq on January 20-21, 2007, in Tacoma, Washington, two weeks before the February 5 court martial of Lieutenant Ehren Watada at Fort Lewis. For more information go to www.WarTribunal.org . In conjunction, these events will serve to raise public awareness about the danger of our current military system, and about the power and responsibility of each citizen of the United States to create a world of peace and justice for all.

Doors to Seattle Town Hall, at the corner of Eighth and Seneca, open at 6 pm January 20. Tickets can be purchased at Brown Paper Tickets or at the door. The public is invited to attend, and net proceeds from the $10 admission will aid the defense of the protesters, which will begin in Kitsap County District Court at 9am on January 22.

We expect this event to sell out.

A reception with light refreshments will follow the lecture where the public will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. John Burroughs and the three protesters, Shirley Morrison, Seattle; CarolAnn Barrows, Bainbridge Island; and Brian Watson, Bremerton.

The event is presented by Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action. Sponsors include: United for Peace and Justice, Fellowship of Reconciliation, SNOW-Sound Nonviolent Opponents of War, Nipponzan Myohogi, and the Abe Keller Peace Education Fund.
