accounts of the court trials and press statements related to Trident
resistance.
January
21, 2002, Love is the only way: Putting King's vision into action
7 people were arrested at the Bangor Trident Submarine
Base on Martin Luther King Day in nonviolent direct action honoring
King's life and
work; Arrests occur as the Navy is being sued by peace and environmental
groups for violating environmental laws with the Trident II (D5) nuclear
missile conversion.
August
9th, 2001 Mourning and Remembrance: Nagasaki Never Again: A Day of Commemoration
and Action at Ground Zero
56 years ago on August 9, 1945 the U.S. dropped a second nuclear bomb
on Nagasaki, Japan. Today, Trident represents the will to repeat
the horror of Nagasaki thousands of times over. About 70 people gathered
at the gates of Subbase Bangor on Thursday, August 9, 2001 to say "NEVER
AGAIN, NOT IN MY NAME".
May
13th, 2001 Mother's Day Action to Abolish Nuclear Weapons
17 people arrested at Bangor Trident Submarine Base on Mother's Day
in nonviolent direct action to say: "In the name of our mothers, we
say 'no' to Trident nuclear death. In the name of our mothers, we say

8th, 2001 Legal Notice Filed Against Submarine Base Bangor
A sixty day legal notice was filed against Submarine Base Bangor for
violations of the Endangered Species Act as a precursor to the filing
of a citizens' suit in federal court.

15th, 2001 MLK Day Action at Bangor
60 people gathered to remember Martin Luther King's life. 20 were arrested
for closing the base.

9th, 1999 Bangor Protestors Acquitted!
Four members of Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action were found
not guilty today for their role in a nonviolent direct action at subase
Bangor on August 9, 1999. The four were charged with displaying an "unauthorized
sign" purporting to imitate an "official traffic-control device…which
attempts to direct the movement of traffic…" Read the Press

D5 Eight
Acquitted - June 10th, 1999 !
The eight defendants who were tried in district court of Kitsap County,
WA were acquitted on June 10th of charges of disorderly conduct while
blocking the road leading into Nuclear Submarine Base Bangor last August
9th, 1998. The jury gave them "lawful authority" by means of International
Law specifically the Hague Convention of 1907 and the 1996 World Court
ruling on the illegality of nuclear weapons. Read the Press
