Editor’s Comment: Here is one of those Congressional press releases that just reeks of the kind of patriotic fervor that precedes the end of the world… or at least pouring a ton of money into preparations for said omnicidal event (aka: nuclear war; euphemistically phrased “strengthen national security”). As for the numbers, he’s only asking for $115 million for the work that will accommodate the “aging” existing Trident submarines until all of their replacements are built and ready to prowl. Kings Bay is already undergoing a major renovation that will cost over $1 billion to prepare the base for the arrival of the new boats.
The release contains more euphemisms than the number of products for sale at Amazon (okay, so that’s a bit of an exaggeration)! But seriously, it makes me wonder if Rep. Derek Kilmer, whose district includes Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, which hosts eight of the nation’s fourteen Trident ballistic missile submarines (two more than puny Kings Bay), is thinking of writing his own legislation for more Bangor expansion! It’s only money$$$$$$$$$$$$$ (and of course the end of the world as we know it).

Kings Bay, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is continuing his work to strengthen national security and help Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay prepare for the new Columbia-class submarine.
This week, Sen. Ossoff is introducing new legislation that would authorize construction of a trident refit facility expansion at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay as the installation prepares for the arrival of the new Columbia-class submarine.
The Kings Bay Trident Modernization Act would strengthen U.S. national security and help the base consolidate management of Naval activities that support the Trident submarine program.
“The team protecting our nation at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay needs continued support for their heroic efforts,” said Sen. Ossoff. “That is why I’m introducing this new legislation to upgrade facilities so we are investing in Kings Bay to prepare it for the equipment and missions that are coming.”
Sen. Ossoff continues working to strengthen national security and improve military infrastructure.
In January, Sen. Ossoff delivered new resources to strengthen energy and national security and upgrade infrastructure at NSB Kings Bay.
In 2023, Sen. Ossoff delivered key upgrades to NSB Kings Bay to help prepare to the arrival of the Columbia-class submarines.
