Greetings friends. Ground Zero Center’s Stewardship Council recently sent the following solidarity letter to the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in support of its upcoming (February 27th) Stop Trident national demonstration. CND expects thousands of people to come out to say SCRAP TRIDENT. We fully support CND’s wonderful work, and hope to do more to reach our hands across the pond in solidarity in our common work against the scourge called Trident.

To our abolitionist colleagues at CND;
Your brothers and sisters in resistance send warm greetings and this message of solidarity on this historic Stop Trident National Demonstration. We say NO To NEW TRIDENT(notnt.org)!!!
Trident, both in the US and UK, is at the core of the threat of nuclear annihilation facing humanity; building a new generation of Tridents (on both sides of The Pond) will only serve to increase that threat.
Having been engaged in resistance to Trident here in the United States for nearly 40 years, we have a firm grasp on the gravity of the situation and the threat posed by Trident. It is madness to continue to deploy these weapons of global devastation as even one Trident submarine is capable of incinerating an entire continent and causing a global catastrophe. The current Trident fleets – 14 in the US and 4 in the UK – are capable of ending civilization and extinguishing life on our fragile planet.
The US and UK are inextricably linked through Trident, particularly through the use of the same missile, the Trident II D5 manufactured by Lockheed Martin. And now, as well, through the design of a “common missile compartment” to be used in both replacement fleets – 12 submarines in the US and 4 in the UK.
The nuclear-armed nations have stonewalled far too long, while continuing to hold all of humanity under the nuclear Sword of Damocles. They have not listened, and now it is time for the citizens of the world to rise up and make our voices heard once and for all. We owe this to future generations.
We must demand that the nuclear-armed nations, led by the US and Russia, begin the process of disarmament and negotiation of a total ban on nuclear weapons, while simultaneously building a new paradigm of cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution. Only through this path will we create a world of peace and justice without the threat (and perceived need) of nuclear weapons.
We therefore join with you in solidarity across The Pond on your Stop Trident National Demonstration and in your continuing work to scrap Trident. We recognize and appreciate you leadership in our common work.
May this be the year that results in real action towards the abolition of nuclear weapons.
With great thanks,
The members of Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action
