People wade into the water of Green Lake as they release paper lanterns during the annual From Hiroshima to Hope event, which observes the anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings, with performances and a lantern ceremony, at Green Lake in Seattle on Thursday, Aug. 6 2015. This year’s program featured lantern calligraphy, performance from the Sound Singers Japanese Chorus and historical exhibits, culminating in the “toro nagashi,” or paper lantern ceremony. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the bombings. On Aug. 6, 1945, “Little Boy” was dropped on the city of Hiroshima in Japan. Three days later, on Aug. 9, 1945, “Fat Man” was dropped on Nagasaki.
